Philharmonia Rudolphina Vienna

The Philharmonia Rudolphina comprises of a Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus based in Vienna and has a history of many decades in performing regular concerts in Austria and abroad. The various formations range from chamber orchestra of 20 musicians to large orchestral and choral works involving up to 200 performers. The repertoire is classical music as well as crossover projects involving film and video games music, world and ethnic music with traditional instruments from Asia and Africa, and cross-over projects with pop music artists.

Some of the special highlights of past classical performances were the 8th Symphony by Gustav Mahler, the 9th Symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven and the Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Special projects included the collaboration with Paramount Pictures in the Hollywood movie Mission Impossible 5 Rogue Nation, the Bollywood movie Yuvraaj, the performance of the Chinese opera Mulan at the Vienna State Opera and the performance of the Genshin Impact music at the Golden Hall in Vienna.

Concerts are given regularly across Europe in halls such as the Musikverein Golden Hall and Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Accademia Nazionale Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and Bavarian State Opera in Munich in Germany, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam in the Netherlands, in Dome des Invalides in Paris, France as well as at important venues in Spain, Poland and the United Kingdom. Performances have also taken place on other continents such as in New York, Boston and Chicago (USA), Buenos Aires and Mendoza (Argentina), Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu (China), New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore (India) as well as in countries like Canada, Peru, Chile and Kenya.

Vijay Upadhyaya

Vijay Upadhyaya, is the artistic director and founder of the Philharmonia Rudolphina Vienna.  Since 2008 has been conductor and composer with the Chinese National Orchestra and Chorus. In 2016 the Chinese Ministry of Culture commissioned his 2nd Symphony “ChangAn Men”. This is the first full-length composition commissioned in the People's Republic of China to a non-Chinese composer and was premiered in Beijing and Vienna. The music is based on texts of the Lunyu, Shijing, Daodejing and traditional Nanyin melodies from Fujian. In addition he was appointed as an expert by the Chinese government in the “1000  Experts Scheme” for developing cultural activities in China.

His 1st Symphony, “Prayer Flags”, was premiered in 2014 and is a milestone in his musical development. The work is based on Indian literature and melodies and focuses on the role of the Indian woman through centuries of Indian society.

He is the Austrian envoy in the jury of experts for the evaluation of cultural projects of the European Union and founder and artistic director of the “India National Youth Orchestra and Chorus”. Since 1994 he has been director of all music activities and of the Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus of the Vienna University and was honored with the “Golden National Award” by the Republic of Austria.

Amongst other activities, he was music director at the Karlskirche in Vienna, lecturer at the Graz Music University, director of the Iran-Austria Symphony Orchestra and Chorus Tehran, director of the Providencia Philharmonic Orchestra in Santiago de Chile and director of a European Union program in Turkey. He was in charge of projects for the Austrian Foreign Ministry in more than 20 countries worldwide.
